Canoeing is one of the more relaxing and pastoral of the outdoor sports. It can take you to wild places where other boats could never go, and it can provide you with a sense of peace and calm.
Never paddled a canoe before? Not a problem! We will teach you how to get in and out of your boat safely and basics of paddling technique. Paddling with a partner, you’ll soon discover how to get your boat going where you want to go.
Take a well-earned picnic lunch in the wonderful grounds overlooking the water.
After lunch we start the afternoon with a beginner’s guide to the skills of map reading skills and orienteering. Think of it as a Treasure Hunt for grown ups, while enjoying an enjoyable walk (or jog if your prefer). After an initial warm-up orienteering exercise to build up your skills and gain confidence you will be ready to tackle the 2.5km course in teams of two. We add a little gentle competition with the incentive of some handmade chocolate 'I'm a Wild Woman' medals to be won.
Finally, we close the day with afternoon tea in the restaurant overlooking the reservoir with an opportunity for a little retail therapy.
This combination of gentle exercise, fresh air, beautiful views, wonderful wildlife and great company will recharge and re-energise you.
Picnic lunch, afternoon tea, canoes, paddles, safety equipment, orienteering maps and instruction all included.
